Colwick

Country Park conveniently close to the city centre

Location
MapQuest Map
Car: take the A612 out of Nottingham and look for the directions to Colwick Country Park. Or look for the Race Course and carry on down the road down the side of that.
Bus: Lilac service 24, Red services 44 or 45, Pathfinder 92 or 202, and Link 2 services.

Access by bus (to the woods area) can mean a long walk, but follow the road by the racecourse and you shouldn't go wrong.

Facilities
Good car parking; restaurant/hotel; toilets. Free entry.

Environment
Three lakes, two large, one small; woodland. The River Trent runs alongside the park, and across the river is Holme Pierrepont

What to see
Good for waterfowl - winter visits of Goldeneye, Ruddy Duck, Smew etc. are quite common, alongside the more usual ducks, geese, grebes etc.

If you venture in to the wood keep an eye out for a small bridge - you can get good views of woodland birds if you put food out on the sides of the bridge (but nowhere else - it can attract less savoury animals).
