Bus: regular services available from Nottingham, Mansfield, Worksop and Retford to Edwinstowe; then only a few minutes walk from the the village.Facilities Excellent facilities near the Visitors Centre, as you'd expect from a park that attracts around half a million people a year. Parking, cafe, shops, picnic and play areas, disabled access, information etc. etc. Free access from dawn until dusk, Visitors Centre open 10.30am-5pm summer, 10.30am-4.30pm winter, parking is £1.50. Slight chance of attack from costumed bad guys and minstrels, weapons available from shops. Also the nearby craft centre, and historic villages such as Edwindstowe and Blidworth are worth a look if the birding doesn't pan out. Environment 450 acres of oak and silver birch forest; sandy heathland. What to see Specialities include Redstarts, Wood Warblers, Nightjars and Long Eared Owls. 1500 species of beetle and 200 types of spider plus rare bats and fungi are among the other attractions amongst 1,000 ancient oak trees. The site is a national nature reserve.
